Sassoli was born on 30 May 1956 in Florence, Italy.

Known as an Italian journalist, Sassoli became a member of the European Parliament in 2009 and speaker in 2019 after being a nationally renowned anchor for newspapers.

#Italy @David Sassoli #passes away The 65-year-old Italian had been seriously ill in hospital for a few weeks. Deeply mourned on his death.
His spokesman Roberto Cuillo tweeted and said that David Sassoli died on 11 January at 115 am at CRO in Aviano, Italy where he was hospitalized.

He was in hospital with a serious illness, Cuillo said on Monday, announcing the cancellation of Sasoli’s official activities.
